Letter From AWC President

The artistic journey is never a straight course. We find ways to create beautiful art even in quarantine. And, we continue to find ways to see each other, and communicate through this new ZOOM technology. Our monthly AWC meetings will continue to be on Zoom.

The Annapolis Watercolor Club is committed to reaching out to artists and art patrons. We bring you art demonstrations and teachers that walk many different paths from all over the world. They will excite and inspire you to take your next step on your own path -- or perhaps try another way.  I hope that your summer included a path along a beach at some point, and let the water soothe you.

Let us go into the fall season with our paints and watercolor brushes, and enjoy the journey together

Zoom Art Salon

Remember to send in your recent artwork by Sept 6th to Connie Robinson at constancejr@comcast.net.  Note TITLE and SIZE.  Back story about painting to share is appreciated.

If you want to ask for opinions, the members can leave their critiques in the chat room, which will be recorded and emailed to the artists who participated in the Art Salon.

Would you like to do our Monthly
Art Salon Slide Show?

Our former Newsletter Editor, Catherine Dolch, recently moved to Scotland and Connie Robinson has taken her place.  Because Connie now has additional responsibilities as Newsletter Editor, we are in need of someone to prepare PowerPoint Art Salon presentations for our monthly Zoom meetings. If you are interested, please email Connie and she can let you know how it works.

A re-designed website is on the way!  The AWC board has made the decision to purchase Wild Apricot membership management software, and this will include a new look for the website.

This system will consolidate all of our records and simplify many of our tasks.  For you as a member, it will be easier to keep track of your membership status and to sign up for workshops and exhibits.

The website will include a members-only section with sign-in required.  You will be receiving an email with instructions later this fall.  We hope the transition will be smooth; but, please bear with us if there are a few bumps along the way!

Sunshine Club

As Summer flies by we look forward to cooler days and getting together on Zoom (at least) for our General Meetings and Demonstrations.

We trust that our Annapolis Water Club members are fit and happy but if you know of anyone in the Club who is now or has been previously seriously ill,  or has experienced a life changing event or bereavement, please let us know.   The Sunshine Club exists so that we can email members a line of encouragement with a Jacqui Lawson virtual card.

Please email June Poole at AWCSunshine@gmail.com with the recipient’s name, email address and reason for the card and a virtual card will be sent.

June 7th Plein Air On
Hammock Island
With Tom Bucci

Many of our AWC members had a wonderful outing on Hammock Island & Marina on June 7th, 10 am - 2 pm, hosted by owners Carol and Bill Durr.  The weather was perfect, our easels were set up, and we drew and painted away the afternoon.  The guest artist demonstrator, Tom Bucci, gave us hints on painting "what we see" of the boats in the marina, trees on the island, and the blue-green surrounding water.  He was an inspiration to everyone!

June 24th - Thank-You Gathering for
AWC Board Members

Our President, Linda Luke, gave "thank-you gifts" to our Board Members to thank them for their hard work these past few years.  It was no small feat to keep the AWC membership active with arranging for art demonstrations, plein air excursions, and monthly meetings.  The gathering was hosted by AWC member, Terri Allen-Jackson at her beautiful home in Severna Park. Terri created a lovely menu from a local caterer.    Even her cat was a "purrfect host," with a warm paw on Joan Machinchick's arm.  It was a fun evening - with everyone showing a recent painting, and talking about their work, family, and many other subjects.  Thank you Linda!

Sheryl Paris,

Welcome back! Currently, we have 173 active members for the 2021 calendar year. We will start collecting AWC dues in November for 2022. Yes, it's hard to believe that we will soon be writing 2022 on all our correspondence!

Anyone who would like to join us at our monthly meetings but have not paid for this past year, can attend as a guest.  Membership for next year, which runs January through December is still only $35! Membership includes attendance at meetings, receptions, art classes and trips.
